Bryan’s winemaking career started in Sonoma County after completing a B.S. in Economics from the U of O in 1980. As a cellar hand at Chateau Souverain, Bryan met Mike Benziger and joined the Benziger Family in 1984, becoming winemaker in 1997, working with fruit from as far south as Bien Nacido Vineyards to many top sites in Napa, Sonoma and the newly discovered Sonoma Coast. In 1994 he worked alongside Warren Winiarski at Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars as Associate Winemaker before coming to the Rogue Valley in 1995. Bryan arrived at Silvan Ridge Winery in 1998 sourcing vineyards from the Rogue, Umpqua and Willamette Valleys until returning to the Rogue Valley in 2005 with Del Rio Vineyards. Bryan helped get Schmidt Family Vineyards up and running in 2006 while also working with Foris Vineyards Winery and starting his own Cuckoo’s Nest Cellars. Assuming the winemaking role at Foris in 2007 and continuing to produce his Cuckoo’s Nest Cellars wines Bryan stayed with Foris for 10 years and assumed the winemaking role at DANCIN Vineyards in 2017. In the spring of 2018 Bryan made the decision to leave DANCIN to focus solely on his Cuckoo’s Nest Cellars wines.
